RESTAURANT TABLE TOP DIMENSIONS

When it comes to choosing your restaurant tables,  there is no such thing as standard table dimensions. Each restaurateur has a different view on what size is needed for his/her restaurant and what will best suit your interior space. From circular and square to bespoke table shapes, to the type of cuisine and turnaround time, there is certainly a few details worth considering when choosing the correct size.

The faster the table turnaround needed in a restaurant, the smaller the table size required. This is split into two categories ‘informal’ and ‘formal’ dining.  Informal dining, for example, a standard coffee shop, will often be fitted with small tables and simple seating which can easily be moved. Not only is this the best solution to seating more customers at any one time, but also speeds up the turnaround of your table as customers are naturally  less likely to stay for prolonged periods.

For small restaurant spaces rectangular restaurant tables are useful where space is tight in your restaurant. Sometimes a 650mm x 750mm is just enough for a table for two and allows for an extra table in a certain space.

Naturally restaurant table dimensions are affected by what the restaurant is planning to place on the table, for example, how big are the plates, how many glasses, how many side plates or serving dishes will be left on the table while the diner is eating? This is most important to consider with ‘formal dining’. Larger, formal dining table as suitable for longer dining experiences, and are often paired with more comfortable chairs.

Your venue will hugely dictate your seating plan depending on the space you have to work with. If you have the room, or indeed if space is somewhat of a problem, enquiring about bespoke shapes as well as the more traditional square tables are certainly worth considering. For example large oval tables can create a statement or they can be placed within a bay window. They also work incredibly well within curved banquette seating booths, as well as D-ended tables for deep circular booth seating. Images: Colchis, London, photographed by Ed Harries.
