Salone del Mobile 2026

Posted on : Apr, 2026

At the 64th edition of Salone del Mobile, the direction of contract and interior furniture wasn’t defined by a single dominant trend, but by a more nuanced shift toward immersive, expressive environments. Across the show, designers explored how spaces can feel richer, more adaptive, and tactile – balancing bold visual statements with practical flexibility.

Rather than isolated trends, three key design directions emerged: the confident use of colour, a heightened focus on tactility, and an evolution in furniture form driven by adaptability.

The colours of Milan

Colour took centre stage, with a decisive move toward rich, confident palettes that feel both grounded and immersive. Deep reds – from oxblood to terracotta – featured prominently, bringing warmth and a sense of understated luxury across upholstery and case goods.

These were complemented by earthy tones such as clay, sand, olive, and warm browns, reinforcing a broader shift toward natural, calming interiors rooted in organic references.

Most striking, however, was the prevalence of colour drenching. Entire environments – furniture, walls, and architectural elements – were saturated in a single tone, creating cohesive, cocooning spaces that felt both contemporary and highly curated. It’s a direction that signals growing confidence in using colour not just as an accent, but as an architectural tool.

A renewed focus on tactility

Building on the strong use of colour there was a rich exploration of texture, pattern, and material expression. Interiors felt layered and deliberately tactile, inviting interaction as much as observation.

Retro-inspired textiles – stripes, checks, and woven patterns – introduced rhythm and familiarity, while generous, rounded upholstery forms enhanced a sense of softness and comfort.

Material contrast played a central role. Raw, architectural finishes such as concrete were paired with warmer elements, creating tension between industrial and refined. At the same time, high-gloss surfaces made a notable return. Lacquered surfaces and polished pieces added reflectivity and depth, signalling a move toward bolder, more expressive interiors that complement the saturated colour palettes seen across the show.

Evolving furniture form

Flexibility continues to shape furniture design across hospitality, workplace, and public spaces. Modular seating was a standout, enabling layouts to shift and adapt in response to changing needs and occupancy.

This adaptability was echoed in the continued move toward softer, more organic silhouettes. Rounded, generous forms not only enhance comfort but also contribute to a more approachable, informal aesthetic in commercial settings.

Functionality is becoming increasingly seamless. Multi-purpose pieces – extendable tables, height-adjustable designs, and fold-away workstations – demonstrate how furniture can work harder without compromising on design integrity.

Together, these approaches underline a clear direction in contract furniture: products that are as versatile and intelligent as they are visually engaging.

Bentwood furniture

Bentwood furniture also made a notable return at Salone del Mobile 2026, reinforcing a broader shift towards craftsmanship, longevity, and material honesty within contract interiors. Defined by its fluid curves and inherent strength, bentwood introduces a sense of lightness and elegance, softening commercial environments while retaining the resilience required for high-traffic use. In hospitality and workplace settings, this translates into spaces that feel more inviting and considered – where comfort, durability, and visual cohesion work in balance. Its enduring aesthetic and adaptability across cafés, restaurants, hotels, and shared spaces position bentwood as both a practical and design-conscious choice.

In Summary

Salone del Mobile 2026 reflects a shift toward more considered, immersive interiors – prioritising atmosphere, adaptability, and sensory richness. It’s less about singular statements and more about how colour, material, and form work together to create spaces that feel cohesive, expressive, and ready to evolve.
